CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETIES

Co-operative Societies
are being encouraged
throughout the country
ami government lends it
full co opera i i t> to these
societies. The West Bengal
Government has a big
soheme to start Dairy &
Food farms on co-ope-
rative basis. In order to
give these soheme a fair
trial, people should have
no misunderstanding about
these oo-operative societies.

Lately it has been
reported that there has
been a oass of misappro-
priation of several thou--
sand rupees of the Motor
Drivers Co operative So-
ciety of Kalimpong. This
Society was started in
Order to help the Motor
drivers and they invested
their hard-earned money
in this sooiety. This case
of misappropriation has
become 1 talk of the
town. It ww reported
that the audit department,
who looks after the ac.
o Mints of the Sooiety has
t*ken this issue. It has
also been laarnt that
some influential persons
who are direo'ly or in-
directly oonueoted with

this sooiety are trying to
hush up the whole issue,
by exerting their undue
influenoe on the audit
department. If this is
true it is a serious matter.

In order to encourage
oo-operative societies and
in order to give lessons
to unscrupulous people,
we draw the attention of
our Sub Divisional Officer
to thjs issue, for his
timely intervention. Im-
mediate steps should be
taken and those responsi-
ble should be brought to
book.
