REM ROAD TO BE EXTENDED UPTO GORUBATHAN

About five hundred
worken of (he Bloom
Field tea estate in Dar-
jeeliog have gone on
itrike since Kith lait
which is still continuing.
According to a lobour
spokesman workers are
demanding their due bonui
which is lying unpaid

Garden authorities
and repreientative* of the
workers met in a con-
ference under auspices of
the Assistant Labour
Commissioner to meet a
solution. Certain propo-
sals were given by the
representatives of the
workers which were sent
to the Head Office of the
Garden at Caleutta. But
According to information
received here the Head
Office at Calcutta has
rejected those proposal
and as a result the dis-
pute is still unsettled.

Very soon a number of
Khasmahal Villages situa-
ted across the Belli Ri-
ver near Kalimpong will
be linked with a mentor
able road known as Belli
Boad with. Kalimpong.
The distance of the ro<td.

pong. The road will cost
about Bs. 6 lake 6 thou-
sand. The entire area
across the Belli Biver
will be economically bene-
fitted whtn the agricul-
tural produce oan be
easily transported to the
market. The opening of
this road start a new era
of eoonomio development
of a vaet area when it a
ill be further extended by
about thirty five miles of
motorable road linking
Qorubathan passing
through and touching Lo-
lay, Pala, Gitdubling,
Gitbeong, Pasturing, Pan-
khasari, Sim, Papherkheti,
Ambiok, Mai. There will
be three major bridges
over Belli, Chamong and
Chel Bivers with a span
of 106 ft, 140 ft, and
90 ft. respaetively and a
number cf culverts. The
prbjeot when completed
will shorten the route
between Kalimpong and
GorubathaD,'

It may be recalled
here that the project had
the blessing of our Late
Chief Minister Dr. B. C.
Roy who was very anxious
to see that it should be
implemented. Some of
the above plaoes have

pioturesque spots to at-
tract tourists particularly
to those who are interes-
ted in the floras which
are found rare in these
days
