in Iraq for all kinds of
diseases and especially for
general debility. This
plant has also been intro-
duced in Dsrjjgeling area.
Aralia ginseng is the well-
known medicii.e already
used all over China and
Japan a9 one of the most
effective medicines for
giving vigour to men and
women. This species has
just been introduced from
the seeds obtained from
the Director, National
Botanic Garden, Lucknow.
Aurea speoies is under
investigation of Dr. B. P.
Ghosh in S S.K.M Hospi-
tal and seeniM to be an
efficatioua remedy for
certain types of diabetes.

It is believed that
the Government is keep-
ing a strict watch on the
movements of political
exiles from Nepal residing
in this district. However,
the task of keeping an
eye on the ordinary work-
era of parties bauned in
Kepai it not easy. Beei.
des, the mountainous ter-
rain of much of the 90-
mile border which sepa-
rates Darjeeling district
from Eastern Nepal is
ohoked with dense forests
and Indian and Nepalese
nationals require neither
passports nor identity
cards to travel acrose the
border.

According to the Supe-
rintendent of Police here,
six border posts between
Nexalbar: and Pbalut,
arc already functioning
winle a low more at strate-
gic areas are soon to be
set up. Border patrols
havs also been intensified
and the police carry out
frequent drives to unearth
illicit arms and ammu-
nition.

These drivea have
during the last few months,
resulted in the recovery
of seven rifles, two revol-
vers, eight shot-guns,
several country-made guns
and a large quantity of
ammunition.
