H. -9 m. Broken : both arms from shoulders, both legs from knees.
He wears a girded rD'A??, trousers, and cap. Very rough work. Clay,
yellow.

149. MASK OF SATYR (not illustrated).
H. -13 m.
Well-modelled face; brows contracted, flowing moustache, beard
stylized into acanthus leaves. Flat at the back for attachment to some
larger object.

VI. ARCHITECTURAL TERRA-COTTAS WITH FIGURES.

The series of terra-cottas described below, to which the name
Campana-Reliefs has sometimes been given, belong practically without
exception to the period of the early Empire. Their use, to judge from
the evidence of finds, was almost entirely confined to Rome and its
immediate vicinity. The details of their discovery and the evidence
bearing on their date is collected in the very complete publication by
Dr. von Rohden, DA %7Az'D72 YUz'^z-c/Azz, part iv, DA uvirDADoTzAzV^z
7AwzA<Dw YUz-DUzyA Dr DWrzU/, which is cited below as ' Von
Rohden '.

1. WINGED IN AMAZON'S SHIELD (pi. 123).
Fragments of four slabs.
(3) Dimensions as restored -47 m. x -33 m. Restored : all r. side from middle of
Gorgon's wing and much on the 1. side. Old and new alike coloured a drab grey;
broken and re-mended with uncoloured plaster.
(<$) Dimensions as restored .46 m. x -36 m. Antique, face, r. wing and half 1. wing
of Gorgon, palmette above and most of egg-and-tongue moulding. Restored parts
coloured as last.
(r) Dimensions as restored .47 m. x .32 m. Antique : head of Gorgon and most
of r. wing and spiral above except the tip.
(A) Dimensions as restored -43 m. x -34 m. Antique : r. wing and part of scroll
under it, spiral above, all but three units of the egg-and-tongue moulding, and part of
the background on the 1. side containing the half acanthus.
Owing to the restoration it is uncertain whether there were remains of white slip
or colour.
The head is enclosed in a compartment shaped like an Amazon's
shield and decorated above with spirals and palmettes. The face is
