TO

THE MOST SERENE AND MOST POWERFUL PRINCE AND LORD,

FREDERIC,

KING IN BOHEMIA, COUNT PALATINE BY RHINE, AND ELECTOR, DUKE IN BAVARIA, MARGRAVE IN MORAVIA, DUKE IN SILESIA AND

LUTZENBUBG, MARGRAVE IN UPPER AND LOWER LUSATIA etc. etc.

MY MOST GRACIOUS KING AND LORD.

Most Gracious King and Lord^

Jrlerein Your Royal Majesty -will find the models and draughts of the principal parties of your court - and pleasure-
garden at Heidelberg, in which you have hitherto been taking a most gracious delight, firmly believing that you in
future should enjoy annually its fruits and the pleasures it may afford you. TVhereas, however, it has pleased God
Almighty lately, to assign to Your Royal Majesty a royal dwelling and residence in another place, and, consequently,
the completion of this work is postponed and interrupted in some measure, for some time, by your personal and distant
absence: I have judged it proper to publish these models and draughts, partly, in order to gratify the request of many
persons, and partly, in order to give a correct idea of the scope of this work, and of what is still wanting to be done,
in case Your Royal Majesty should be pleased at some future period, to have it completely finished.

The founders of any fine work taking delight in examining occasionally the description and draught of it: I
humbly flatter myself with the hope, that Your Royal Majesty also will graciously deign to look at these designs; so
much the rather, as most of them were drawn according to your own direction.

May it please God Almighty to grant to Your Majesty, besides a prosperous reign, a long life, an uninterrupted
state of good health, and all manner of happiness, and take Jou into his paternal keeping. Heidelberg, Dec. 20, 1619.

Your Majesty's

most humble and devoted servant

SALOMON be CAUS.
