The Numismatists's Archive: A Recapitulation
of the Project Inaugurated in 2013
The previous, eighth volume of AT/ć/o - Zu/j/AA/ A7//77/z/77u/T'-cz/?u
contained a brief article on the inauguration at the National Museum in Kraków of
a project focused on collecting, arranging, and exhibiting our archival resources,
which include: the legacy materials of various numismatists and private collectors as
weh as a certain amount of documentation Tom the institutions active in developing
and promoting numismaticsd After one year of the existence of the Numismatists'
Archive, we would hke to present the results of the implementation of this project.
Our first objective, as specifred in the project Schedule, was to ensure the
opinions of experts from various helds of science as regards the assumptions on
the proftles of the archival numismatic collections and the methodology of their
archivization. We have asked many outstanding scholars for their expert advice on
various questions related to numismatics (Prof. Aleksander Bursche, Warsaw), ar-
chival science (Dr. Wojciech Krawczuk, Kraków), legacy materials (Dr. Mirosław
A. Supruniuk, Toruń), biography writings and the history of the 2CA century
(Dr. Mariusz Wołos, Warsaw).
It should be noted that our initiative has met with a very positive response, and
the idea of creating a group of experts to provide support and assistance for the
Numismatists'Archive received much attention and interest from scholarsA
The opinions point to the fact that the documentation within the framework of
the project is currently excluded from the custody of the state-owned archives net-
work. Moreover, Dr. Mirosław A. Supruniuk has taken notice of the problems such
as the dispersal of legacy materials, trading in documentation of particular value, and
the hnancial difffculties of the institutions that attempt to acquire personal archives.'
The opinion by Prof Aleksander Bursche, refłecting the views of a broader circle
of numismatists, indicates that the aims of the project correspond with broader public
