Pociski kamienne z Novae
Streszczenie
Pośród zabytków związanych bezpośrednio z wojskowością znajdujemy w Novae sporą
liczbę pocisków kamiennych. Niestety, fragmentów ewentualnych maszyn batalistycznych
nie odkryto. Rzymska artyleria ma długą historię. Zwłaszcza z przekazów Cesara posiadamy
informacje o szerokim, zarówno ofensywnym, jak i defensywnym, zastosowaniu tych maszyn.
W Novae odkryto i zadokumentowano 351 pocisków. Przeważająca większość pochodzi
z terenu principia. Drugie miejsce, w którym odkryto ich koncentracje, to baszta w sek-
torze II. Pociski wykonano z wapienia, rzadziej z piaskowca. Tylko niewielką część
obrobiono na tyle starannie, by mogła służyć jako amunicja balisty. Większość kul datuje się
na okres późnorzymski i prawdopodobnie rzucano je ręką.
