^ Proportion

Proportion is approximate, because indi-
viduals vary greatly.

The appearance of proportions change
with every movement of the body.

These proportions apply to the male figure.

The tips of fingers when the arm is
dropped at the side reach slightly below the
middle of the thigh.

The arm is 3 heads long from the armpit
to the tip of the middle finger.

The width of shoulders is 2 heads j of hips
1 Y2 heads 5 of waist 1 head.

The waist line is 1 Y2 heads below the col-
lar bone.

The adult human figure is about 7 Y2 heads
high, 4 heads from top of head to lower part
of body, and 4 heads from head of thigh bone
to bottom of heel.

As half a head, by the measurements, over-
laps at the pelvis, this makes the figure jY
heads.

Notice that the height of pelvis, i. e. the
bony structure of the hips, is about 1 head.
The knees divide the leg approximately into
halves. The elbow is equally distant from the
top of shoulder bone to the base of the middle
finger.

In the front view the distance from the pit
of the neck to the end of the fingers of the
outstretched arm is half of the figure.
