^ Proportions of the Head

All these measurements vary greatly in
individuals.

In the adult head, the proportions are as
follows:

The eye balls lie midway between top and
bottom of head.

The end of the nose is midway between the
eyebrows and the bottom of the chin.

The lips are one third distance between the
base of the nose and the bottom of the chin.
The indentation of the chin marks two-thirds
of this distance. The ears extend from the
height of the eyebrows to that of the base of
the nose. The hair in front usually comes
about one-half of the distance from the top
of the head to the eyeball.

The distance between the eyes equals the
width of the eye.

The width of the base of the nose equals
the width of the eye.

The width of the mouth equals i Y2 of the
width of the eye.

The width of the neck equals Y2 of that of
the head.

The width of the head is Y of its length.
In profile the main line of the hair cuts diag-
onally across the head. The base of the skull
is much higher than the line of the jaw-bone,
and is about the height of the mouth. The
profile must not be drawn in front view. The
eye sets close behind the nose in the profile
view.
