that major urban centres, as well as religious ones, were located
there. That the right bank of the Debba bend was occupied in
Napatan and New Kingdom times was already suggested by the
discovery of some robbed graves a couple of kilometers east of
Argi (west of the gubba of Wad Idris).6 The objects from these
graves are registered in the Sudan National Museum (no. 5123).
