Porta del Popolo, formerly called the Flami-
nian Gate, is at one extremity of the Corso Umberto I,
and is decorated on the exterior by Vignola (1561), from
designs by Michelangelo. The interior was arranged
by Bernini at the order of Pope Alexander VII. (1655),
when Queen Christina of Sweden, daughter of Gusta-
vus Adolphus, came to Rome, to embrace the Catholic
faith. The two side arches have been opened since 1870.
Outside of the gate is Via Flaminia. Taking this road,
and at about a mile, on the right is the
Villa Papa Giulio. Open every day from 9 to
4p. m. Fee 1 Frane. On Sundays free from 10 to2p. m.
It is closed on State holidays. Erected by Pope Julius III.,
from designs by Vignola. Here is the newly founded
Etruscan Museum, comprising a collection of sepul-
chral furniture of many centuries, from the earliest
