Ponte Quattro Capi or Fabricio, construc-
ted in the year 690 of Rome, connects the city with
the island of the Tiber; on which is the
Church of S. Bartolomeo all' Isola, built
upon the ruins of a temple of Esculapius. It is of very
early date, and has been several times restored; the
last time in 1863, when the Franciscan Friars to whom
it belongs decorated it again, under the direction of
Padre Goffredo di Sardegna, a monk of that order.
It has three aisles with 14 columns, which are sup-
posed to have belonged to the temple of Esculapius.
The roof is decorated with paintings by the said Padre
Goffredo, and the middle aisle is richly ornamented.

Ant. Caracci. Upon the altar of the next chapel is a
