The Life and Work of a Young Poland Artist
Summary
This article introduces the personality and work of Włodzimierz Błocki (1885-1920),
a painter active in Kraków, Lviv and Zakopane. Talented and appreciated, he died prema-
turely and was soon forgotten. His works got dispersed but have recently resurfaced on
the antiąue market and in the art historical discourse on Young Poland. This article puts
together and examines facts about the artists life and oeuvre. Briefly, the decades-long
silence around this unąuestionably gifted artist should be put down to the naivete of a sig-
nificant portion of his paintings.
