Unacquainted with this part of the subject, it is im-
possible for any one to enjoy, intelligibly, the surprizing
variety in representation, and the beauty of those scenes
that present themselves to our observation by Appearances
in Nature. The acquisition will be easily made.

This part of the study is called

PERSPECTIVE.

A perfect comprehension of Planes is necessary.

Of Planes in general.

A Plane is an imaginary, even surface—surface only—
without more breadth than a line describes; as the
thinest plate of glass, or any metal might be, when
passing on, through, and intersecting every thing, even
other Planes, to infinite distance and height.

A Plane may be in every Position.

The use of Planes is—to determine situations cor-
rectly, as respectively parallel with, or oblique to,
these Planes.
