Application of the Grammigrapbic Science.

X HE mind disposed to activity and observation, and
impressed with the engaging variety of surrounding ob-
jects, is naturally desirous of preserving a remembrance
of whatever strikes with pleasure, or occasions an agree-
able idea.

But that perpetual change which takes place in every
appearance of nature, from the constant progress of light,
and numberless other causes, renders it impossible, by
the moft expeditious way, to present a scene complete
in figure, shadow, and colour.

A Description by Lines is perfectly capable, while the
effects continue, of representing the extension of super-
ficies, the appearance and the character of properties,
with a juft description of shadow.

By being of more common use, as well as by how
much more expeditiously it is performed, this method
becomes of so much greater service than painting : And
has its farther advantages in convenience ; it requires
