Very rare first German edition of the famous anatomical plates in
quarto size. They are based on.Merian’s reduced copies. The number of plates is
increased. ‘*C.’s plates mark a new epoch in the history of anatomic representation”
(Choulant — Frank 228). — The second part is occupied by Spigelius “De formato
foetu” (in German) ; it is “a work of lasting value” (Weindler). — Part III gives
an enlarged Latin edition of the introduction of anatomy by the first professor at the
Copenhagen University at whose instigation the whole collection was published. ■—
Of great rarity with all three parts. — On the frontisp. the globe with
America. — According to the ms. dedication our copy was presented to the ambassador
of Hamburg Joh. Mollei* when he left Denmark Sept. 1663. — The 4 folding plates
with some well-repaired tears.

Garrison 215, 342: “Albinus edited the works of Harvey, Vesalius, Fabricus and
Eustachius, and his atlases are all justly renowned for their beauty and accuracy of
illustration and for the elegant style of the accompanying text.” Not in Choulant.
Each of Eustachius’ plates is supplemented by a separate outline plate of equal size.
Second Albinus edition, containing considerable textual additions. In the beginning
and at the end water-stained, but otherwise a good uncut copy.
