Pellechet 1116. BMC VI, 649. Stillwell B 1109. Leonardus Bruni, surnamed
Aretino (from his birthplace Arezzo) was a noted scholar and historian. He was a
pupil of Manuel Chrysoloras and became chancellor of Florence. He wrote the history
of this town in 1415. The first biographical accounts of Dante are to be found in
this history (cf. Fiske-Koch). —• “N.B: Frequently found with Poggio Bracciolini:
Historia Fiorentina, H. 13173.” (Stillwell). — Complete copy with the title leaf,
somewhat stained', a few old marginal notes. On If. 1 of the Tavola two names
crossed out, and ownership entry : Vettorio Lioni. The Tavola is bound between the
title and If. a 2. Generally a good copy of this well printed book.
483 CARACCIOLUS, Robertus, ord. Min. Sermones quadragesimales de
poenitentia. Basel, Bernhard Richel and Mich. Wenssler, 1475. With
ivoodcut-(Maibhwnen) initials and rubricated initials. Goth. type. 40

C 160. BMC III, 736. — One of the earliest dated impressions of Basle and the
first printed by Richel in partnership with M. Wenssler. (This is one of the only
two books they printed together). Most copies have only 360 Ivs. and formerly were
believed to be complete, but according to G.K.W. there must be present a leaf con-
taining: Registrum quinternorum (only 37 lines). Very probably this leaf has been
added subsequently. ■— Fine binding, very little damaged in the back and worm-
holed, some small wormholes in the beginning and at the end, the last Ivs. with a
water-stain, but a very fine, large and nicely rubricated copy. — Rob. de Caraccioli,
often called Robertus de Licio, born in 1425, was one of the most celebrated preachers
of his time. He entered the Franciscan Order, but finding their discipline too rigid
he moved to the Conventuals. He died in 1495.

Ludwig Rosenthal’s Antiquariaat, ’s-Gravelandseweg 102, Hilversum-Holland. — Cat. 196
