LESSON V.

To draw the Arches of a Bridge in Perspective.

This problem is performed exactly on the same prin-
ciple as problem third, Lesson IV, the arch being only
part of a circle.

Let A B be the base line, C D the horizontal line, D
the centre of the picture, and C the distance point:
draw the line A a equal to the height of the bridge; the
vanishing line a D, which will give the top, and the line
A I) the bottom of the bridge ; next mark off the
distances 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, B equal to the breadth of the
three arches with the piers between them, and rule the
lines 1 C, 2 C, 3 C, 4 C, 5 C, B C, when the points in
