LESSON XXVI.

On Contrast.

OF FORMS.

Whatever form is different to another is a con-
trast to it.

Forms are made by lines and by light and shade.

An horizontal line is contrasted most strongly by a
perpendicular line.

A line is contrasted by any other line which is not
parallel to it, and which, if continued, would intersect
it; thus in fig. 1, the line A B is a contrast to C D,
because if continued to E, it would intersect the line
CD.
