4. Is used for the same purpose, and is
______ made of the same colours, the raw umber

being in somewhat smaller proportion.

5. Is an equal mixture of lake, indigo*

___ and raw umber, and is what is generally

called “ neutral tint.” It is extremely useful for distant
buildings, trees, and other objects, particularly if they
come against an evening sky.

6. For distant trees, is made of indigo,

_ with a very small proportion of raw umber,

7. For trees somewhat nearer, is made of

_ the same colours, the proportion of raw

umber being rather greater.

8. For the shade parts of trees, which are
_ still nearer than those that have been ex-
pressed by the foregoing tints : it is also extremely
useful for the green of willow-trees, which is paler and
more silvery than the foliage of most others.

f). Also made of indigo and raw umber,
______ the latter being still stronger than in any of

the former tints, may be used for foreground trees which
are in shade.
