The war and post-war politics left their imprint
on the history of many museum collections. The fate
of many historical artefacts is complicated and still
not fully accounted for today. The National Museum
in Poznań (then called Muzuem Wielkopolskie)
received in 1922, as a gift from the geologist Prof. Dr.
Józef Zwierzycki, exotic exhibits from New Guinea
(from the areas which at that time were part of the
Dutch East Indies). The article presents the state of
research, from the time of acguisition of the collec-
tion, through its arbitrary division and incorporation
of its bulk in 1950 into the inventory of the Museum
of Folk Cultures in Warszawa-Młociny (now the
State Ethnographic Museum in Warsaw) until 2014.
