4. Strzelno, Premonstratensian Nunnery, Northern tympanum of the Church

Museo Sacro in Vatican preserves the part of a Gospel-book coming from the Abbey at Lorsch
and its cover of ca 81036; in the middle of the field Christus Victor is trampling upon the lion
and the serpent on both sides of Him two angels are standing with the scepter and the scroll,
in the upper part the angels are holding the cross above the head of Christ in a wreath (crux
invicta), which is here the sign of the gained victory (tropaion)'".

The Early Christian art used (first of all in the apse) the representation of Christus Victor
et Liberator in the middle of the College of the Apostles. The abbreviated form of this repre-
sentation was also used, "with the acclaiming Apostles — St Peter and St Paul, the represen-
tants of the whole Church, which is composed of ecclesia ex circumcisione (= Peter) and ecclesia
ex gentibus (= Paul)38. Peter appears also as primus apostolorum with the sign of potestas clavium
given him, and Paul with the book as doctor gentium. In this way these Apostles are represented
