Marie-Adelaide de Savoie’s wedding ceremony. The pasto-
rale héroïque, extended with a prologue and the final feste
on the monarch’s order,28 was officially staged on 17 De-
cember 169729 in the presence of the king and his court in
the Salle de la Comédie in the north wing of the Grand
Trianon in Versailles. The play was performed again
on 30 December 1697 at the Académie Royale de Musique
in Paris.30 A year later an opera in three acts entitled Dia-
ne et Endymion with music composed by Anne Danican
Philidor (1681-1728) was published and performed at the
Château de Marly.31
