First edition of a very curious book written by a pharmaceutical chemist of Montpellier.
The book treats with T h e r i a c a the name of which being derived from the snake called Tyrus.
The former contained 55, or, according to some formulae, 72 ingredients, and occurs in all the
dispensatories, from that of Corvus Valerius up to the pharmacopoeias of the 19th cent. Aromatic
preparations of opium are still used, under the name of Theriaka in Persia.
The author of this interesting treatise lived at the beginning of the 17th cent. „II s’occupa
beaucoup de la composition des remödes, et l’Academie de Toulouse se decida sur ses conseils ä
modifier la confection de la theriaque“ (Nouv. Biogr. Gen. IX, col. 147).
Clean copy, slightly wormed in places at blank margins.

of making Saltpetre and its using to meliorate metals. The work contains besides medical pre-
scriptions for different maladies as are w 0 m an and veneral disease s, congestions a. o. 1t
mentions also many cosmetics. There is besides a special chapter for seamen diseases.
