Choulant p. 91. Good complete copy of a rare and esteemed Manual of Anatomy which
was very populär at the time of its appearance, passed through a great number of editions and was
translated into German, English and Dutch. This is the second Latin edition, revised by the author
himself, enlarged and provided with 24 copperprints which, according to Choulant, were the best
circulated since 1641. “They were intended for the commonest needs but are mostly original
engravings and represent some organs of the human body more correctly than
their predecessors“, (Choulant). The frontispiece shows a professor sitting beside a dissecting
table upon which there lies a human body, and teaching to a large assembly of students.

Hirsch VI, 384. Ferguson II, 572: J. Zwölfer or Zweiter, born in the Palatinate, 1618, was
Professor of medicine at Vienna. He claimed to be the first person to reduce pharmacy to a
System and published the „Pharmacopoeia Regia“ at Vienna. He gave his name to Crocus Mar-
tis Z. prepared by igniting iron with salpetre, and advised the washing of calomel with water to
remove traces of corrosive Sublimate. He died in 1668.
