This sermon is dedicated to the nuns “an Oedembach in Zurich”, to whom Zwingli was
ordered to preach.
The nice cut, Moses receiving the tables of the law, is the work of Hans Weiditz. (See
Rottinger, Weiditz, p. 82, 33.)
A few small wormholes. Title slightly stained.

Brunet I, 1025. The Latin translation of the great French political philosopher’s famous book
on sorcery “Demonomanie des sorciers”, which proves him to be a credulous believer in witchcraft
and in which he denounced all who dared to disbelieve in sorcery and urged the burning of witches
and wizards. It caused a great sensation on its publication and passed through several editions in
the author’s lifetime.

A rare edition of this famous work against Heretics. Henricus Institor (Heinrich Kremer), a*
Dominican, and Jac. Sprenger, the first inquisitor of heresy and witchcraft appointed for Germany,
composed this work as a manual for ecclesiastical judges persecuting witches, in accordance with the
papal bull of 1484, which reprinted at the beginning of the volume.
Title slightly damaged, the woodcut border being affected at the left top corner; some notes
in an early hand. Fine copy.
