1146 Albertus Magnus. Das Buch der Haymligkaiten Magni Alberti, von Artzney vnnd
tugenden der Krautter, Edelgestain, vnd von etlichen wolbekandten Thieren. N. p.
(? Augsburg) 1544. 4*°. 40 unn. leaves with sign. With large woodcut on title. Half
vellum, covered with incunablepaper. 200.—
A very interesting and rare medical book of Albertus Magnus, the famous philosopher, in
which he deals at first with woman, then with several herbs and their healing power, then with
precious stones; the fourth group contains reflections upon some animals and their organs. After this
follows a chapter on the stars and the times of their rises arranged according to the weekdays; and
lastly come some directions for several illnesses, especially for the plague.
The woodcut on title shows two learned men in a room, the left holding a vessel and looking
at it, the right bending over a medical work at a desk, at their feet some herbs.
A good and perfect copy of this curious popular booklet, there are a few wormholes
in the upper blank margins and numerous MS. notes by a former reader.
