border. Old Vellum. 30.—
Rare treatise. The nice border is probably the work of Lucas Cranach the younger
(see Passavant IV, 24, 121, and Heller, p'. 248, 678). The border represents scenes of the martyr-
dom of St. John the Baptist, on the left side Salome with the head of St. John, on the right side the murder.

The first edition of tnis very rare Froschauer-Bible in Octavo
printed in one volume. Goeze says: Sie gehort unter die seltensten Ausgaben der Ziiricher Bibeln.
The text is in Swisse dialect.
Marginal notes, notes of ownership on title, the upper margin of the title scribbled on. The
first and the last 11. stained, otherwise a quite perfect copy in its original binding. The capitals and
initials are painted over with red.
No copy in the British Museum (not no. 3035 aa. 18, described in the Catalogue
of Printed Books. Bible. I, p. 191).
1399 Biblia Latina. Cum concordantiis veteris et novi Testamenti et sacrorum canonum:
nec non et additionibus in marginalibus varietatis diversorum textuum... Lyons,
Jacobus Sacon for A. Koberger, 1522. Fol. With a border and printer’s device on
title, 3 large woodcuts by Hans Springinklee, 135 smaller ones
(some repeated), of which 17 are also by Springinklee and 58 by
Erhard Schon and numerous partly historiated initial letters. Original blind
stamped pigskin over wooden boards (somewhat wormed, two corners slightly da-
maged). 300.—

Very beautiful Bible, remarkable for the numerous woodcut illustra-
tions by Hans Springinklee and Erhard Schon. The three large cuts (all signed)
by Springinklee are 1. St. Jerome in his study, writing; 2. The Creation of Eve; 3. The Nativity.
Springinklee also designed the ornamental head and tail pieces for the Eusebian canons, which follow
the prologue to the New Testament.
Quite complete copy, the upper margin of the first 1. cut away, the blank margins of the
first 11. waterstained, names on title, rather wormed at end.
1400 — Biblia sacra utriusque sacramenti. Nuremberg, Fridericus Peypus, 1530. Fol.
With large figurated handsome title-border, a fullpage
woodcut on the last leaf by Albrecht Diirer, another nearly
full page woodcut by Hans Springinklee (signed), 77 smaller
woodcuts in the text by Springinklee and Erhard Schon, and
numerous ornamental and figurated initials. Contemporary blind
stamped black calf over wooden boards (rubbed, back partly damaged). 450.—

Rare edition of the finely illustrated so-called “Peypus-Bible”. The beautiful cut by D ii r e r
(Dodgson I, p. 266. Friedlander, Diirer als Kupferstecher, p. 125.) with the inscription SANCTA I
