dated 1417 and 1459. 4to- Lat. et german. 2 vol., 229 H. Very
legibly written in two hands in red and black. Hf. pigskin. Frs. 750. **
Very fine manuscript containing 5 biblical and ecclesiastical texts.
I. Fol. 1 a: (B) Beatissimo Damaso Pape. Jheronimus. — On fol. 5 a be-
gins the Evangelia. — Fol. 82a: Explicit hoc ewangelium. Orate pro me
scriptore vigniti ave maria prope deum. si placet. — 82b: Index to the 4
gospels in mnemonic hexameters, each word giving the contents of one chap-
ter. — Then follow 32 mnemonic verses for the Epistles of S. Paul and the
Actus Apostolorum with the colophon: Explicit novum testamentum vel
Biblia pauperum. —j On fol. 83a, col. 1, lin. 12 begins an abbreviated
index to the Old Testament, but does not finish. — Fol. 84b blank.
II. Fol. 85a begin the Epistles of Paulus, Jacobus, Petrus, Johannes,
the Actus Apostolorum and the Apocalypsis. — Fol. 174 a, col. 2: Explicit liber
apocalipsis Johannis apostoli In die pentheleonis 1459.
III. Fol. 174: Jncipit tractatus reuerendi magistri Hainrici de hassia

1 Biblia sacra latina. Manuscript on vellum, dated Flatten (in
Rhineland) 1417. Sm. 4'°- 71° H., div. lin. (43—47), in red and
blatk, with red headlines. Painted initials, at the beginning of
each book, with fine, coloured marginal elongation heightened with
gold. Marginal notes in red. Vellum. Frs. 1200.—
Precious Manuscript of the year 1417, excellently written on vellum.
Fol. la: The title, written at a later date. Fol. 2a—4a give classification
of the books of the Bible. Fol. 4b—9a: Libri Esdra III. et IV., two apocryphal
books. Book III contains an enlarged translation of the canonical book, IV is
apocalyptical and deals with the marvellous visions of Esra. Fol. 9 b—10b: blank.
After the introduction follow the Epistle of S. Hieronymus and the Old
Testament beginning on fol. 110a. Fol. 406b begins the Lamentationes Jeremiae,
conspicuous on account of a finely painted floral elongation of the initial D.
The New Testament begins on 502 b, the Epistles of S. Paulus on 567 a,
the Actus Apostolorum on 609a, the Apocalypsis on 639b, on 649b the Psalter
of David begins, followed (on fol. 684 a) by an index of Hebraic names.

blatena. (=1417, 4. Sept.) 706 b—710 b: Index.
Blatena, now Flatten, where this Manuscript has been written,
is a small town in the Rhineland.
This precious vellum Manuscript is very well preserved.
