Panzer VI, 136, 41- Proctor 10699- First Edition.
This rare work contains two very remarkable woodcuts.
The first one, the “Philosophia” is an authentic, signed work of Diirer
(Bartsdi 130). The second, the “Mons Parnassus” with Apollo scraping on the
fiddle, was formerly also attributed to Diirer, but according to new researches
by Rbttinger (Diirers Doppelganger, p. 222 and plate LX11I) it is the work of
Peter Vischer the Younger.
This poem on the life of Frederic Babarossa is one of the most important
sources of history. It was written by a Mcnk Guntherus in the monastery of
Pairis in Alsace. It was edited by Marquard von Stein, Matth. Mar-
schalk, Bernh. and Conr. Adelman n, Con r. Peutinger andGeorg
Herbart. The MS. now is lost, so that ours is the only authentic edition.
A fine large copy of this beautiful book.
