The interesting cuts represent waterwheels, military engines, and other inven-
tions, including a warship moved not only by sails, but also by paddles. On 1.
XLVI vo. there is a quaint orographicmap of Italy and the Alps. There are
curious representations of Milan Cathedral, which are important as being the
earliest engravings of Gothic architecture known.

Very scarce first edition of a most interesting works on coal gas, dealing with
the Science in its very infancy, while the fine illustrations depict most accurately
the methods and apparatus used at the time, and form an unusual series of „Acker-
mann Plates“.
Fine uncut copy, preserved in its original binding, which is nicely orna-
mented in the classic style.

George Adams was a „mathematical, philosophical and optical instrument-maker“ and the
last 21 pp. of this book consist of a catalogue of 335 instruments which he had for sale.
The plates show all männer of objects, botanical, entomological and zoological. There are some
interesting chapters on animalcula in liquids, on the teeth etc. Fine and complete copy.
