Very rare. The booklet is divided into three sections treating of the political con-
ditions of Mexico, Peru and other American peoples. There are many interesting
notes on the manners and customs of the pre Colombian natives, their economical state,
mode of fighting, etc. Somewhat waterstained.

First edition of this exceedingly scarce Jesuit relation, the first
book ever printed by Jesuit missionaries on the Paraguay mission.
The Relation of de Torres is dat' d from Rome Feb. 25 th i6oj and contains ex-
cerpts from the letters of: Giov. Romero and Gasparo de Monroy from Tucuman;
Andrea Ortiz of Santa Croce della Serra; Diego Samaniego of Sta. Croce; and Diego
Vazquez of Residentia di Julij; containing reports on Aricas Tucuman, Santa
Cruz, Peru, Chito, Paraguay, Arechipa, Chile, Cuzco etc. It follows the:
Lettera Annua dell’Isole Filippine scritta dal P. Francesco Vaez alii 10 di Giugnoiöoi.
Diego de Torres Bollo born in 155° at Villalpando went to Peru in 1580 and
died at Chuquisaca in 1638.
Small stamp and ms. note on title, somewhat closely cut, otherwise nice clean copy.

excellently reproduced by photolithography.
