SARGENT’S PORTRAIT OF WILLIAM M. CHASE. Mr. John S. Sargent is now painting a
portrait of Mr. William M. Chase, and it is the desire of Mr. Chase’s students, to purchase this
portrait, for future presentation to “ The Metropolitan Museum of Art ” of New York City, as a
lasting testimonial to Mr. Chase’s unceasing devotion to American Students and American Art.

Mr. Sargent has entered most delightfully into the spirit of the project, and has made very
generous terms for the work.

As it is the desire of the Committee to make this as thoroughly representative a testimonial as
possible, will you kindly assist them in their efforts by circulating this letter among Mr. Chase’s
students, as there are of necessity many the Committee will be unable to reach.

Kindly make checks payable to Susan F. Bissell, Chairman, address, 57 West 57th Street, New
York City.
