32. LEFT FOOT (pi. 118).
Foot shod with sandal composed of side pieces of soft leather and
small straps at the back looped round the band which encircles the
ankles. Straps between each toe, gathered up and knotted on the
instep with falling ends. The foot ends above the ankle in a bead
moulding.
33. HEAD OF EROS (pi. 118).
H. -084 m. Applique of furniture.
The head, which was attached behind to some object from which
it appears to have been wrenched away, terminates in a collar or neck-
lace. The features are coarse, almost negroid, with wide nostrils, full
protruding lips, eyes rather flatly treated with thick lids. The hair is
treated in long strands which come down from the crown, and break
into little locks round the face. There is a braided tress all along the
crown, and one bunch of hair is caught up immediately over the fore-
head and bound round so that it stands up in a tuft. The head is turned
slightly to r.
Coarse work.
34. RECLINING YOUTH (pi. 118).
H. (without base) -053 m. The rectangular base is hollow, and does not
belong.
The youth lies as if at a banquet, resting on his 1. elbow, and places
his r. hand on the knee of his raised r. leg, which crosses the 1. leg in
an easy attitude. His head is turned sharply to 1. as if addressing some
one beyond. In his 1. hand he holds an indistinct object (flower or
rAy/w). The head, with hair in a is of early Etruscan type,
the eyes d He is completely nude.
Work rough, hands large and coarse.
Found in 18*72 on the Viminal.

H. to break at neck -042 m., L. .075 m. On a base which does not belong.
There is a projection from the middle of the back as if for attachment. Missing : head,

turned to r.
At present almost shapeless owing to corrosion.
