texture. Decorative Motifs in chenille or raffia can lend such
wall coverings a subtle charm airy and light, so as not to
break up the wall-space. In the case of a hand-woven
material, each width should begin at the bottom with a
dark shade which gradually merges into the light tone
which predominantes.
• The windows should be as broad as possible, with large
panes. The curtains must on no account be suflficiently
heavy to keep out the sunlight; they should be porous and
transparent enough to allow of a view from the windows,
while, at the same time, rendering the inferior of the room
invisible from outside when artificially illuminated. The
more uniform the wall containing the window the better

Wandspannstoff wird zweckmäßig jede Stoffbahn unten am
Boden ganz dunkel beginnen, um dann allmählich in den
hellen Grundton überzugehen. Fenster sollen möglichst
breit und wenig unterteilt sein. Der Vorhang darf keines-
falls so dicht sein, daß er die Sonne und die Außenwelt
absperrt; er soll porös und leicht transparent sein, den Blick
hinaus gestatten, jedoch bei Innenbeleuchtung den Einblick
genügend abwehren. Je ruhiger die Fensterwand, desto
besser! Also möglichst Vorhang an einer Gleitschiene an
der Decke laufen lassen. Er fällt bis zum Fußboden; zu-
gezogen, deckt er nahezu die ganze Fensterwand; also
Vorhangwand. Muster im Vorhang ruhig, vielleicht regel-
mäßige, ganz breite Querstreifen auf weißem Fond. Möbel:
