The gems coitection created by the eminent Pohsh antiquarian Constantine
Schmidt-Ciążyński (1818-1889)' contains 2,5 i 7 itemsr It inciudes almost aii
types of glyptic artwork, from the Chaldean cytinders and Egyptian scarabs to
the objects executed by the 19"'-century engravers/ The structure of the entire

pp. 379-387. Recently, the updated biography of Constantine Schmidt-Ciążyński has been published by J. Śliwa
in his book Partacze - Wc/ekc/onerzy - Poctróżntcy. Staa'ta z ażfe/ów zainteresowań poctróżntczych, Kraków 2012,
pp. 301-321. In this book some previous mistakes have been corrected e.g. the datę of birth of the collector
- 18"* February 1818. It was mentioned in the act of baptism of the collector, kept in parish of Saint Cross in
Warsaw (electr. doc.: http://metryki.genealodzy.pl/metryka.php?ar=9&zs=9243d&sy=l 30&kt=4&plik=246.jpg
[read: 18.06.2013]). Interesting information on the life of Constantine Schmidt-Ciążyński can be found also in
