The Berlin court-architect and engineer Martin Griinberg (1656-1706),99
who assumed responsibility for the Academy project in 1696-97, planned the
construction of a high tower from the existing central pavilion in 1700/01-1706
which was ultimately to house the observatory.100 To realize the task of erecting
