The project of penetrating into Abyssinia, of vi-
siting those immense and interesting countries in
the interior of that part of the globe which is
least known, to do honour to my country by an
important expedition, which an Englishman, aided
by every means, by every assistance with which
government could supply him, had attempted
successfully ;> in a word, to compensate by a bold
