Krasnov’s book provides probably the most com-
prehensive guide yet published to the history of
early agriculture and livestock husbandry on this
enormous territory.

The Radiocarbon Dated Ploughing Implements

Grindsted, share. 1240+100 before 1950

Timber of oak (Quercus sp.) from the stilt of an
arrow-shaped ard share found in 1968 in heaps of
earth thrown up during the digging of drains by
the hospital near Grindsted river, parish of Grind-
sted, Ribe county, Jutland. The share had not
been treated before a sample was taken for dating.
Sent in by Axel Steensberg. The share is kept
in Den antiqvariske samling in Ribe.

Grindsted, Schar 1240+100 vor 1950
K-1841 710 n. Chr.
Eichenholz (Quercus sp.) vom Schaft einer pfeil-
formigen Haken-Schar, gefunden 1968 in Erd-
haufen von einer Drangrabung beim Krankenhaus
am Grindsted-Fluss, Pfarre Grindsted, Kreis Ribe,
Jutland. Die Schar war noch nicht konserviert.
Eine Probe wurde zwecks Altersbestimmung ent-
nommen. Eingesendet von A. Steensberg. Die Schar
befindet sich in»Den antiqvariske Samling« in Ribe.

Lochmaben, ard

Timber of alder (Alnus sp.), from the beam of
an ard (of Dpstrup type); found in a peat bog
near Lochmaben, Dumfries, South West Scotland,
in 1890. The sample was taken before conservation
treatment (see fig. 1).
Sent in by Axel Steensberg. The ard is kept in
the Dumfries Burgh Museum, Scotland.

Erlenholz (Alnuss sp.) vom Grindel eines Haken
(D0strup-Typ); gefunden in einem Torfmoor in der
Nahe von Lochmaben, Grafschaft Dumfries, SW-
Schottland, im Jahr 1890. Die Probe wurde vor der
Konservierung entnommen. Eingesendet von Axel
Steensberg. Der Haken befindet sich im Museum
von Dumfries, Schottland.
