Neue Verfassung — Wahl des Rektors
Otl Aicher.
Am 15. Dezember 1962 trat für die HfG eine
neue Verfassung in Kraft. Der Beirat der
Geschwister-Scholl-Stiftung — der juristischen
und finanziellen Trägerin der HfG — löste
damit die vorläufige Verfassung vom 7. März
1958 ab.
Die HfG wird jetzt von einem Rektor geleitet
(an Stelle des bisherigen aus drei Mitgliedern
bestehenden Rektoratskollegiums). Er vertritt
die Schule nach außen und innen. In seiner
Funktion als Leiter der Institution wird er vom
Kleinen Senat unterstützt, der aus den Leitern
der Abteilungen und einem Vertreter der
Fachdozenten besteht.
Am 20. Dezember 1962 wurde Otl Aicher zum
Rektor für die Studienjahre 1962/63 und
1963/64 gewählt. Prorektor wurde Tomas
Maldonado.
Otl Aicher, zusammen mit Inge Aicher-Scholl
der Initiator der HfG und seit 4949 aktiv an
ihrem Aufbau beteiligt, ist heute Dozent in der
Abteilung Visuelle Kommunikation. Seine
Arbeitsgebiete: Grafik, Fotografie, Typografie,
Ausstellungen, Verpackungen, Farbsysteme.
Er ist Leiter der Entwicklungsgruppe 5 an der
HfG. Er hat unter anderem entscheidend bei-
getragen zum Konzept für die Werbung und
das Erscheinungsbild der Firma Max Braun AG,
Frankfurt, und mit verschiedenen Industrie-
unternehmen zusammengearbeitet. Sein Inter-
esse gilt vor allem auch Fragen der Regional-
planung; als freier Mitarbeiter hat er an ver-
schiedenen Regionalplanungsaufgaben mit-
gewirkt. Er hielt Gastvorlesungen und Vorträge
an der Yale-University (1958), am Museum für
Moderne Kunst in Rio de Janeiro (1959), auf
der Welt-Design-Konferenz in Tokio (1960).
Unter anderem erhielt er folgende Auszeich-
nungen: Prix d’Honneur der Triennale Mailand
1954; das beste deutsche Plakat 1955. Seine
Arbeiten wurden in verschiedenen internatio-
nalen Zentren ausgestellt, unter anderem in:
Paris, Mailand, New York, Tokio, Kairo und
Rio de Janeiro. Publikationen: 'Planung in
Mißkredit' in dem Buch 'Bestandsaufnahme'
(München/Wien/Basel 1962). ‘Per una revisione
degli attuali segnali stradali' (‘Für eine Revi-
sion der gegenwärtigen Verkehrszeichen') in
der Zeitschrift ‘Stile Industria' Nr. 33 (1961).
The New Constitution — Election of the
Director
On December 15, 1962, a new constitution
for the HfG came into effect. The advisory
council of the Geschwister Scholl Foundation
(the fiscal and legal trustee of the HfG)
dissolved the temporary constitution of
March 7, 1958.
The HfG is now under the leadership of one
director (in place of the previous board
of directors with its three members). He
represents the school both internally
and externally. In the fulfiment of his duties
he is supported by the inner council which
consists of the heads of departments and
a representative of the specialist lecturers.
On December 20, 1962, Otl Aicher was
elected Director for the academic years
1962/63 and 1963/64. Tomas Maldonado was
elected Vice-Director.
Otl Aicher is now lecturer in the Visual
Communication Department. Together with
Inge Aicher-Scholl, he initiated the school and
has been playing an active part in its
development ever since 1949. His fields of
activity: graphic art, photography, typography,
exhibitions, packages, applied colour systems.
He is chief of development group 5 at the
HfG. Among other things he contributed
decisively to the preliminary planning for
the advertising campaigns and for the cor-
porate image of Braun AG., Frankfurt, and
has also worked in collaboration with various
other industrial enterprises. He is interested
above all in matters concerning town and
country planning. He has collaborated as
free lance consultant in various district
planning projects. He has given the following
guest lectures and addresses: Yale Uni-
versity (1958), at the Modern Art Museum
in Rio de Janeiro (1959), at the World
Design Conference in Tokio (1960). Among
other distinctions he was awarded the
Prix d'Honneur of the Triennale' in Milan,
1954, and the prize for the best German
poster in 1955.
He has published amongst others an article
'Planung in Mißkredit' (‘Planning in Dis-
credit') and ‘Per una revisione degli attuali
segnali stradali' (’For a reconsideration of
present-day traffic signals') in the ‘Stile
Industria' Nr. 33 (1961).
