to three (mutually conditioned and dosely related) ha-
síc traits, qualifying its essential attributes:
1. Architecture is apprehended more and more as a so-
cial art — the circuit of its social tasks is being ex-
tended, social consciousnesis of architecture grows in
relation to theoretical and practical issues (Problems
of quality and quantity, ideal of humanism and its
inner antithesis).
2. The significance of the functional aspect of archi-
tecture is growing. While projects of revolutionary

architects shift functionality into the theoretical and
symbolic plane, works of their pupils process prac-
tical issues and perceive functionality in a sense very
close to modern approaches.
3. In the domain of means of expression there is a
tendence towards elementary forms, and new prin-
ciples of their composition are applied. Revolutionary
architecture anticipâtes the forms and compositional
principles of modern architecture and its develop-
mental trends.
