In 1995, the basic structure of the National Museum in Warsaw changed.
What were previously branches of the Museum - the tazienki Museum, the
Palace in Wilanów, and the Museum in towicz - became independent entities.
This decision was based on the number of temporary exhibitions organized by
these museums and the number of their artistic collections. Thus the National
Museum in Warsaw now consists of the Main Building, the Xawery Dunik-
owski Museum in the Królikarnia Palace, the Ignacy Paderewski Museum of
Polish Emigration in America, the Poster Museum at Wilanów and the Museum
at Nieborów and Arkadia.
In 1997, the internal structure of the National Museum also changed; the
previously existing galleries were replaced by 10 separate Collections - of
Ancient Art, Byzantine Art, Medieval Art, Polish Art, European Art, Contem-
porary Art, Sculpture, Decorative Arts, Oriental Art, and the Iconographie and
Photographic Collections. There are also three separate Departments of
European Prints and Drawings, Contemporary Prints and Drawings, and Coins
and Medals, as well as the Center for Modern Design. Thus these changes in
nomenclature will be observed beginning with this issue of the Bulletin du
Musée National de Varsovie.
EXHIBITIONS:
In 1996-97, the National Museum in Warsaw organized 85 exhibitions,
including 21 in the Main Building (10 in 1996,11 in 1997), 31 in the branches
museums (16 in 1996,15 in 1997), 24 in other galleries and museums throughout
Poland (12 in 1996,12 in 1997), and 9 in foreign countries (4 in 1996,5 in 1997).

anniversary of Warsaw as capital of Poland. Jan. 29 - Feb. 29,1996, and Aug. 9
