arhat” every time.
Finally his egoism and pride were subdued
and he openly informed his disciples that he was
going to adopt the doctrines of Buddha.
They told him that they would follow him at
ell risks, because he was their teacher, and accor-
dingly they and their master became converts to
Buddhism. They threw into the river their skin-
couches, tree-bark, staffs, round bowls, and sac-
rificial spoons ”
Kasyapa’s younger brothers ‘ seeing all the
implements of worship floating down the stream
thought that some misfortune had befallen him,
be it from the king or robbers, from fire or water.
They and their disciples go to seek him, but to
their utter surprise find him listenning to
the precepts of Buddha. Eventudly they them-
selves were converted and became members of
the Order, Now Buddha, with all his converts,
went to Gaya, and one day while he was sitting
