A very rare German popular book of receipts by Bartholom. Vogter,
an oculist of Dillingen. Treats of the diseases of the head, eyes, ears, mouth and
nose, tongue, respiration-organs, heart, further venereal diseases, woman’s diseases, epilepsy,
plague, etc. 4 pages deal with dentistry. Numerous pharmaceutical prescriptions are also gi-
ven. The woodcut on title Cafter W e i d i t z) is of high surgical interest. — Slightly spotted.

angibt. Der Autor, Nicolaus Winckler, war Stadtphysikus in Schwabisch-Hall. Titelbl.
leicht beschadigt mit altem Besitzvermerk und Stempel. Etwas kurzrandig, sonst gut erhalten.

Ferguson I. 119. Choulant, Bibl. med.-hist., p. 126. First edition of this early history of
chemistry and alchemy from Clemens Alexandrinus till Descartes. Borrichius (1626—
1690), a man of great acquirements and learning, was professor of chemistry at Copen-
hagen and an ardent defender of the truth of alchemy. He was the founder of the college
of medicine in Copenhagen which bears his name. Slightly browned, name on title.

chemist Robert Boyle (1627—91) one of the scholars who founded chemistry as a mo-
dem science. "The influence of this work was epoch-making and did more than any other
work of the century to arouse a truly critical spirit of scientific logic in chemical thinking".
