Liebermann, painted in Holland; and a large
canvas styled Abendsmahlsfeier in Hessen, by
Bantzer of Dresden. Among the sculpture was
a bust by Rodin.

The Academy organised during the winter a
large exhibition of the works of Ludwig Knaus, in

celebration of his seventieth birthday. The
paintings of this venerable artist are so well known,
even abroad, by means of reproductions, that no
description of his style is required. Together
with Vautier, Knaus represents all that is best in
the genre painting in favour thirty or forty years
ago—that unambitious and humorous treatment
of " parochial" life, which for a brief time seemed
