WASH-STAND DESIGNED BY G. LOGAN

violet with harmonising green. And the walls
are here and there relieved with sketches and
water-colour drawings. The room is oblong in
shape, divided by a screen in white wood. The
furniture in this room is interesting, and has
evidently been influenced by a careful study of
the best modern designers.

The bedroom, designed by Mr. George Logan,
has an especial charm in the manner in which the
colour is managed. To gain simplicity without
dulness and delicacy without monotony would
seem to be the first essential in the decoration of
a bedroom. The ingle-nook is adorned with
enamels inlaid in natural-coloured walnut. The
grate canopy has two silver peacocks with feathers
enamelled blue and green, and the carpet has a
light violet ground, relieved with a note of prim-
rose colour in the form of four butterflies. The
ewer and basin are of pewter quaintly modelled.
The lines of the furniture, like those of the room
itself, are dignified without any restlessness, simple
in form, and admirably adapted to the purpose of
a combined boudoir and bedroom.

Messrs. Wylie & Lochhead have also furnished
the Royal Reception Rooms, which consist of hall,
dining-room, and drawing-room. The latter is a

room much too small to show to advantage
in the style of Louis XV., and contains a
few pieces of furniture upholstered in old
French design of Beauvais tapestry. The
dining-room calls for no special mention, but
the hall is pleasing, with its ceiling dado and
staircase decorated in flat ivory white. The
ceiling is pronounced in design, with plain
cross-beams. The furniture is a blue-green
tone, upholstered in applique work. The
electric and other fittings are of copper, inlaid
with enamels, and the effect of the whole is
good.

Messrs. Heal & Son, of London, are also
exhibitors of furniture in a stand adjacent
to that of Messrs. Wylie & Lochhead. They
show a guest's bedroom, with oak fur-
niture, inlaid with ebony and pewter. In
