gone a marked improvement, and influences of
one kind or another are steadily weeding out the
cumberers of the ground. Another New Cross
student, Freda Garrad, sends a simple but very
effective convention of peacocks' feathers for an
embroidered screen. One of the most charming
stencil designs of the year is for a silk hanging, by-
Smith Ashby Neate (Bath). The pattern is worked
out in dull greens and purples, and the limits and
possibilities of a quick and light method applied
