Sample of oak wood (Quercus sp.) c. 50 year-
rings of heartwood from one of the now 245 lo-
cated Danish finds of T-shaped peat spades.1 This
one was found in 1938 during peat-digging in
Holmegaard bog, Norre Omme parish, Ringko-
bing county, West Jutland, lying c. 1 m down in
the bog. The time of the use of the manufactured
spade might well be c. 40-200 years later. This
type of implement has hitherto been dated to the
late pre-Roman Iron Age, but this Bronze-Age
date widens the time span for the use of such
tools.

Sample of oak wood (Quercus sp.) c. 13 year-
rings of heartwood from a T-shaped peat spade.
Found c. 1.5 m down in Hostrup bog, Haderup
parish, Ringkobing county, West Jutland. The
tool itself and its use may well be 30-200 years

Jahresringe vom Kernholz eines der nunmehr 245
georteten danischen Funde T-formiger Torf-
spaten.1 Dieser wurde 1938 beim Torfstechen in
Moor von Holmegaard, Pfarrsprengel Norre
Omme, Kreis Ringkobing, Westjutland, gefunden.
Er lag ca. 1 m tief im Moor. Die Anwendungszeit
des fertigen Spatens mag ca. 40-200 Jahre spater
anzusetzen sein. Dieser Gerattypus wurde bisher
in die spate vor-romischen Eisenzeit datiert, aber
diese Bronzezeit-datierung erweitert die Zeit-
spanne des Gebrauchs solcher Gerate. Vorgelegt

Jahresringe vom Kernholz eines T-formigen Torf-
spatens. Gefunden ca. 1,5 m tief im Moor von Ho-
strup, Pfarrsprengel Haderup, Kreis Ringkobing,
Westjutland. Das Gerat selbst und seine Anwen-
dungszeit mogen wohl 30-200 Jahre spater anzu-
