Resumen
La representación de ahuianime en el Códice Florentino
El tema de este artículo es la descripción de tres dibujos provenientes del Códice
Florentino de Fray Bernardino de Sahagún, que representan a las mujeres az-
tecas llamadas ahuianime. Las ahuianime eran las mujeres que acompañaban
a los gurreros más destacados en varias situaciones de la vida cultural y religio-
sa. Tomando en cuenta el hecho de que estas relaciones podían incluir el contex-
to sexual, los misioneros europeos solían igualar a las ahuianime con prositutas.
En las ilustraciones descritas se ven tres ahuianime, cada una de edad diferente:
una muchacha, una mujer madura y una anciana. Cada una de ellas está además
acompañada de varios atributos que indican su edad, estatus y rol social. Nues-
tro objetivo principal es definir el significado de estos atributos y decir hasta que
punto coinciden con las informaciones sobre ahuianime que podemos encontrar
en las fuentes escritas.
Summary
Representations of ahuianime in Florence Codex
The subject of this paper is description of three pictures found in the „Florentine
Codex”, by fray Bernardino de Sahagun, showing the Aztec women called ahu-
ianime. The ahuianime were women who accompanied the most distinguished
warriors in various cultural and religious situations. As these relations might
have had sexual context, the ahuianime were frequently considered prostitutes
by the European missionaries. In the described pictures there are three ahuiani-
me, each of them in different age: a young girl, a mature woman and an elderly
woman. Each of them is accompanied by various attributes that point to her age,
social status and social role. Our main aim is to state what meaning do these at-
tributes have and to what extent are they consistent with the information on ahu-
ianime provided by the written sources.
