Suite dos Cartouches extraits de la « Coupe des Pierres » du
P. Derand, donnés p. 38. L'ornementation des bordures présente
souvent l'anomalie déjà signalée à propos de la Cheminée de
P. Collot, donnée p. 72, et qui est de la môme époque. Nous y
remarquons le môme mélange des images chrétiennes et païennes;
ici des masques de satyres et de chérubins bouffis sont agréable-
ment confondus. Quant aux enroulements des Cuirs, ils res-
sortent de la dégénérescence de la volute ionique.—{Fac-similé. )

Continuation of edge ornaments drawn froni P. Derand's "Art
of hewing stones,' ' given p. 38. The ornaments of the edges pré-
sent often the anomaly which has alrcady heen nientioned when
wc spoko of P. Collot's chimney-piccc (given p. 72), and which is
of the same epoch. Wc may remark the same mixture of Christian
and pagan images; satyrs and fat cherubim's masks are nicely
blended. With respect to the rolling up of the Lealhers, it is
produeed by the degeneracy of the ionic volute. — (Fac-similé.)
